My mom grew up watching my grandmother cook meals from scratch on a daily basis. This visual pattern of behavior intrigued her and became a pattern in her life. I remember her sharing a story of her beginning journey of discovering foods and their health benefits. When my older brother was born, she prayed for things that she could do for her children to help them in life. Conscious food choices was one idea that resonated in her soul. As I grew up, I remember seeing several examples of her making particular food choices. I remember her baking an apple in the oven in the morning and smashing it into our freshly prepared oatmeal so no sugar had to be added. I also remember her smashing a banana in my oatmeal as well. I saw green vegetables on our plates often because chlorophyll had to be present at most meals. These childhood experiences built my interest in food. Years later, after surviving a gunshot injury that left me paralyzed, that interest became a necessity. My doctors prescribed many medications, however, I felt a strong pull to take care of my body in the most natural way I knew. So I never took any medications. I turned to the homeopathic habits that I grew up with like herbs, teas, fruits and veggies. That’s when I really started creating my own recipes, blending healing with flavor, and turning food into my medicine. Now I want to Enhance the food choices of others.
